How to buy somebody a drink in an English pub or café

If you are out with an English friend and you want to offer to pay, there are some great phrases that you can use to sound like a native English speaker!

When it’s time to pay, you can choose one of these natural English expressions:

“I’ll get these.”

“These are on me.”

“It’s my treat.”

If you friend then tries to get out their wallet. You say:

“No really, I insist!”

By the way, you can also use all of this English vocabulary to buy somebody a coffee/cake in a café or to buy dinner in a restaurant!

If you are taking turns to buy drinks in a group, you say “It’s my round!”
